Election Day could bring changes to the Leon County Commission, where two seats are in play and a third commissioner has been re-elected without opposition.
Commission Chair Carolyn Cummings is facing David T. Hawkins for one of the county’s two at-large seats. She’s an attorney; he’s a state worker. She’s raised $104,000 while spending $95,000. He loaned $9,000 to his campaign and spent about $5,400.
In District 4, Commissioner Brian Welch is looking for a second term, while Isaac Montilla is the challenger. Welch is a teacher; Montilla is a chiropractor and businessman. It’s a high-dollar race, with Welch raising roughly $251,000 and spending all but about $10,000. Montilla has raised $141,000 and spent all but about $4,000.
Commissioner Christian Caban of District 2, in southwest Leon County, was re-elected without an opponent.
The county commission will be reorganized on Tuesday, November 19th, before its regular meeting.
