A major concern of the CSC-Leon is getting kids ready for kindergarten

The Children’s Services Council of Leon County will meet with city and county staff next week to discuss how to collaborate to pay for future social services. It’s a question local officials have been contemplating since last year.

The county commission wants to direct nonprofits that serve children and families to apply for funding via the Children’s Services Council.

Earlier this year, County Administrator Vince Long characterized the potential shift as a way to reduce duplication, save money and improve delivery of services.

The request comes as funding from the federal government meant to address COVID-19 recovery, dries up.

Those dollars had gone to homeless services—where there’s a growing financial need.

Green says she’s ready for the conversation.

“What I like about this whole thing is that we have given ourselves plenty of time to hear from the city, the county, from the nonprofits that will be affected by this decision and, quite frankly, from the public," she said.

The meeting will be Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. at the CSC building at 2002 Old St. Augustine Road.
