School administrators searched the student's backpack, finding a loaded handgun and more.

A 13-year-old student at Griffin Middle School is facing drug and weapon charges.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office says the student arrived at school Thursday morning smelling like marijuana. School administrators searched his backpack and found a loaded handgun, which was turned over to the School Resource Deputy.

The search also found a container with 11 small baggies suspected to be cocaine.

The Leon district urges parents and students to use the FortifyFL app or call 850-922-KIDS to anonymously report any suspicious school-related activity.
