Leon County is hosting a dragon-themed CosmicCon

Leon County is hosting CosmicCon this Saturday. It’s the county’s 6th annual celebration of comic books, gaming, pop culture, and more.

This year’s event is titled Here Be Dragons. Attendees are invited to engage in dragon-themed, hands-on activities, cosplay competitions, and scavenger hunts.

All ages are welcome. It happens Saturday from 10 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. at the Leon County Main Library downtown.

Unleash Your Inner Dragon During Leon County’s Sixth Annual CosmicCon

Dive into a world of fantasy and fandoms during Leon County Government’s sixth annual CosmicCon, a celebration of comic books, graphic novels, gaming, sci-fi, artwork, and pop culture, on Saturday, August 24, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Leon County Main Library, 200 West Park Avenue.

This year’s theme, Here Be Dragons, invites citizens to engage in dragon-themed, hands-on activities, interactive sessions, cosplay competitions, scavenger hunts, book displays, and more.

Magical CosmicCon programming for all ages includes:

  • Cosplay Competition from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Unleash your creativity and showcase your craftmanship by dressing up as your favorite literary characters, superheroes, or pop culture icons for a chance to win gift card prizes. The competition is open to participants ages eight and older. Register online to participate. The competition will be followed by an all-ages costume parade.
  • Tales from the Tabletop: Shelly Mazzanoble and the Power of Dungeons & Dragons from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in person and virtual – Join author and podcast co-host Shelly Mazzanoble in a discussion about her book Welcome to Dragon Talk: Inspiring Conversations About Dungeons & Dragons and the People Who Love to Play It.
  • Training Grounds, throughout the event – Become a dragon trainer and enjoy memory games, a riddle contest, and more.
  • Potion Making at the Alchemists’ Apothecary, throughout the event – Visit the Alchemists' Apothecary to create your own glitter sensory potion bottle.
