The complex is slated to help underserved youth in Tallahassee.

Florida State University’s Charlie Ward is in the beginning stages of building his own multi-million-dollar athletic facility.

On Tuesday, the Heisman Trophy winner got the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Commission to approve a rezoning proposal to turn 109-acres of land off Capital Circle Southeast near Woodville Highway, into a multipurpose "barnyard"—type facility.

The complex will cost $26.9 million to build. Ward approached Blueprint agency in November to ask for $4 million to help jumpstart construction.

“Our vison now, is to create a hub where youth sports thrive, where community events bring us closer, and were people of all ages gather for a healthier, more connected life," Ward said during November's Blueprint meeting.

Ward’s “Champions Ranch,” will come equipped with an indoor and outdoor playing field, a counseling center, and office spaces to hold various events.

With the city’s help, Ward believes he can have the Champions Ranch project built and open by Spring 2025.

The City Commission will vote in August to decide whether to move forward with the proposal.
