The city received a $1M grant to fund the project.

After years of working out of an aging building, Havana’s first responders could soon have a brand-new safety complex.

The city received a million dollars from the state to go towards building a new Police and Fire station.

"Havana is going to build a new public safety complex to ensure the safety of our residents for many generations to come," Havana Town Manager Kendrah Wilkerson said.

The city is receiving a $1 million grant from the Florida Division of State Fire Marshall to fund the project.

The request was made by the Havana Town Council, and it got the nod from the Florida Legislature after two local lawmakers, Corey Simon and Gallop Franklin II, pushed for it to be a part of this year's state budget.

"It is my privilege to inform you that the 2024 Florida Legislature appropriated funds to support the requested project," said the Director of the Division of State Fire Marshall JoAnne Rice.

The Town of Havana can receive the funds as early as July 1, once the "appropriate requirements are met."
