Many of those receiving food from the Saturday, June 8 distribution at Tallahassee's Truth Gatherers Church got an extra bonus. A local company donated 200 buckets filled with hurricane preparedness supplies.

Cars were already lining up on High Road before the distribution began at eight Saturday morning. Event Coordinator Sherelle Cork said, along with fresh produce and non-perishable food from Second Harvest of the Big Bend, the first 200 folks received a bucket of hurricane supplies, donated by the local business consulting firm I.S.F.

"It's definitely going to help them. It's going to jump start their hurricane preparedness kit. We also want them to look at that kit and see what other items they might need. Don't forget your bottled water. That's going to be very important and your non-perishable foods, you got some today."

The area's disaster officials have been pushing the yearly "build a bucket" campaign. That encourages every household to fill plastic buckets with essentials in case a hurricane threatens. Forecasters say that may be more likely this year than ever before.
