The 3rd annual Pyramidpalooza happens Saturday, May 11, at the Lake Ella American Legion Hall.

The music festival and fundraiser is the product of Tallahassee’s Pyramid Studios, an arts-focused, nonprofit day program for adults.

“Our mission really essentially is to provide people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with a meaningful day,” says Program Director Lindsay Joseph. “Whether that's socializing, whether that's working on handwriting, learning sign language, learning to play the trumpet, performing in a play, you know, the possibilities are endless.”

Pyramid is client-centered, and individuals can have a wide array of experiences at the facility on Commonwealth Lane. Their requests run the gamut.

“That might be anything from doing a science experiment one day to learning how to crochet the next day to writing letters to their aunt and uncle in California,” Joseph says. “We kind of do it all, and we're going to help them achieve whatever they want to achieve.”

Pyramidpalooza started during the pandemic when the organization's regular musical production wasn’t an option. This year’s event will feature Tallahassee’s Lil’ Grizzly Boogie Band as the opening act, followed by Pyramid’s own Electric People band.

“The Electric People have written an album of all original music. So we will have that available for purchase at the event and they’ll perform those songs,” Joseph says. “Pyramidpalooza was really an opportunity for them to headline and for our supporters to be able to come out as well as have an art show at the same time.”

Art and jewelry created by Pyramid Artists will be available for sale. Items will include original works from clients at Florida's other Pyramid locations in Fort Walton Beach, Panama City, Pensacola, and Tampa.
