Florida A&M officials are getting started on Phase 1B of FAMU Towers. The housing is slated for upperclassmen and is part of an ongoing project to give students more living options while combating the rising cost of off-campus housing.

The facility is slated to bring more housing options to students.

Florida A&M University broke ground Tuesday on a new, 700-bed dormitory.

The housing is slated for upperclassmen and is part of an ongoing project to give students more living options while combating the rising cost of off-campus housing. The new residence hall will be located off Osceola Street and South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near FAMU Towers.

“When you go and look in these facilities, it’s like okay, I would want to stay there too," FAMU President Larry Robinson, Ph.D. said.

Robinson said the project is aimed at making the campus more attractive for students. FAMU’s latest project is set to open by fall 2025 and will bring the total number of on-campus beds to more than 4,000.

"Young ladies and gentlemen, please go and spread the word about the availability of these resources to help our students move through this university and go and do much greater things," Robinson continued.

The project is being funded through a 30-year $97.5 million federal loan from the U.S. Department of Education’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Capital Financing Program, which funded FAMU Towers in 2018.
