LCSO and TFD rescued several individuals after flooding impacted a mobile home neighborhood on Southern Bell Loop/Emily Loop.

A flash flood emergency was declared this morning for Leon County and the city of Tallahassee following reports of water rescues and water entering buildings.

Rainfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour overwhelmed drainage across the area.

Water rose over the Black Creek Bridge on US 90. Dozens of roads have been closed because of high water or fallen trees. There are reports of flood water causing issues with electric cars in parking lots on the FSU campus.

“Radar estimates of rainfall are as high as 8-10” in Liberty County, northern Jefferson County as well as some locations in Leon County,” says Florida Public Radio Meteorologist William Maxham. “Rainfall gauge numbers are similarly high, with 9 inches of rain recorded at Holy Comforter Episcopal School."

The flash flood emergency expired near sunrise after the heaviest rain moved out of the area, but standing water and road closures remain.

Outside this area, emergency managers are reporting that Cedar Island and Dark Island near Perry remain underwater.
