The Tallahassee Museum is now home to one of the largest alligator habitats in the region. Saturday's heavy rains didn't stop the exhibit's grand opening festivities.

The exhibit, which cost close to $1 million to design and construct, is the work of the award-winning zoo design firm Coyle and Carron. Among the local officials impressed by the result was Leon County Commission Chair Carolyn Cummings. She called the habitat a welcome addition to the Museum's vast collection of wildlife in their natural environment.

"Just embrace the beauty that we have here in Leon County and certainly this attraction is going to add to it."

Five adult American Alligators live in the habitat. Their environment has a number of water enclosures surrounded by natural landscaping. Visitors can observe the exhibit from elevated walkways.
