The Tallahassee City Commission is investigating whether County Commissioner David O’Keefe trespassed on the construction site of the city’s new police headquarters. It’s the latest dust-up amid an ongoing conflict between the progressive and moderate factions of both commissions.

O’Keefe had joined City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow to look at the construction site after neighbors complained of trees being cut down. Photos and video of the two appeared online.

City Commissioner Dianne Williams-Cox moved that staff look into the matter and report back.

“I saw the video, so I know it happened. It’s not out there anymore, but I’m just concerned about what are we doing about that? Because if a regular citizen had done that, that regular citizen would be in a whole lot of trouble.”

Mayor John Dailey seconded the motion

“Especially when the act of doing so is, I believe, a felony." he said. "So, I will second the motion, have the report brought back so that we completely understand what happened outside of what he posted on video.”

The motion passed 3-2. Matlow and Jack Porter voted against it, with Matlow warning the majority to tread carefully.

TPD is now investigating, in collaboration with the State Attorney’s office.

O’Keefe said in a statement he hadn’t trespassed but would say more when the investigation is done.
