The committee reviewing Tallahassee’s city charter meets tonight (Thursday) and is looking for more citizen input.

This will be the charter review committee’s third meeting. It’s a ten-member panel, with the five city commissioners each appointing two members.

Topics include the size of the city commission, with some pushing to expand the body from 5 to 7 members and some adamantly opposed.

Other issues include the salaries of the commissioners and whether the commission seats should be considered full-time jobs.

Only a few dozen surveys had been returned by the second meeting, so the panel agreed to pause its deliberations until more citizens weigh in.

The surveys are posted online, along with recordings of the first two meetings and other documentation, at www.talgov.com/charterreview

Tonight’s meeting is at 6 p.m. in the Tallahassee Room at City Hall. It’s also possible to attend virtually. The review process will unfold in time for a vote in the November 2024 election.
