Vintage valuables brought steady buyers to a landmark building in Tallahassee's Frenchtown on Saturday. It was the final public sale of the remaining contents of the old Ashmore store on Brevard Street.

People were already lined up before the doors opened at ten in the morning. Inside was a mix of trash and treasures from the 62 year history of the store, which the late owner - Rob Roy Ashmore - first opened in 1946. Items included restaurant fixtures, vinyl and even shellac records, tools, electric appliances, newspapers, magazines and much more.

Among the many old books and periodicals at Ashmore's was this historic edication of the Tallahassee Democrat dated Jan. 5, 1971.

The City of Tallahassee, which now owns the building, plans to refurbish the structure and turn it into a museum celebrating the history and culture of Frenchtown. That project could get underway as early as late spring or early summer.
