There is still no cure for Parkinson's Disease. But there are some new therapies that seem to be helping those who have the disorder that slowly destroys the nervous system.
Kim Bibeau owns Tallahassee's Sweat Therapy Fitness. She says an all-day free seminar on the disease, plus ways to reduce its impacts, will take place from 9:30 until 3 this Saturday at Westminster Oaks' Maguire Center.
"We have some local therapists coming, we have someone coming in from the Parkinson's Foundation, we're extremely excited to host our new movement disorder specialist in Tallahassee Dr. Urrea Menedez."
Bibeau says nutrition and exercise will also be a focus of the program with a focus on the boxing training that's been found to be effective in reducing Parkinson's impacts on many of those who are afflicted by it.
"They get pleasure out of hitting something. But that improves hand/eye coordination, agility and the cognitive aspect. And all this goes along with some of the symptoms hat people have with Parkinson's Disease."
There's no charge for the session, which includes a complimentary lunch.
