Florida A&M University head football coach Willie Simmons continues to build on his legacy as one of FAMU’s greats. He’s already secured the team’s highest national ranking in two decades at five. Partnering that up with FAMU’s first 10-game winning season since 1999.
But on Tuesday, the Rattler Nation found out that their beloved coach is also in the running for the 2023 Eddie Robinson Award.
The honor goes to one coach every year from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). It's based on the coach and the team’s success for that year, and the winner will be crowned the FCS National Coach of the Year.
For the first time in his career, Coach Simmons is among 20 other finalists for the award.
A national voting panel will announce the winner on Dec. 7th, one week after FAMU’s showdown with Prairie View A&M (6-5) for its first-ever SWAC Championship. That game will be held at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee on Dec. 2nd.
