Lady Rattlers beat out 11 other teams.

Florida A&M university’s women's cross country team has won its first Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship.

The women’s championship meet was held at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, a familiar ground for the Rattlers. They’ve competed there twice earlier in the season.

The Lady Rattlers participated in a 5k race that featured 75 runners from powerhouse Black colleges and universities, including the defending cross country champs, the Jackson State Tigers. But the Lady Rattlers persevered.

FAMU had three runners finish in the top 10, with Junior Serenity Williams, finishing the race in just 19 minutes and 58 seconds.

With the win, Florida A&M picked up its first women's cross-country title, as part of the SWAC, in just its second year of membership.
