October 4th is National Coffee with a Cop Day and authorities from Florida’s capital city are taking the opportunity to build a stronger bond with the community.

Tallahassee Police spent Tuesday morning chatting with locals, while enjoying a cup of joe at the McDonalds on Magnolia Drive.

“It allows people to see you as just a normal person," said Chief Lawrence Revell with the Tallahassee Police Department. "They don’t see the uniform, they don’t see the police car; they see you as a person."

The coffee event comes just a week after Tallahassee commissioners raised the tax rate to better fund public safety.

The decision increased TPD’s budget by $9.5 million. Revell says the money will be used to hire and train 20 additional officers to ensure the area is kept safe.
