The August 15th deadline for Florida State University to notify the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of its intent to leave, has passed.

Talks of leavingcame up during a recent Board of Trustees meeting, where FSU’s President Richard McCullough told members he believes the ACC owes the school more money.

"We are not satisfied with our current situation," McCullough said. "We love the ACC and our partners at ESPN. Our goal would be to stay in the ACC, but staying in the ACC under the current situation is hard for us to figure out how we remain competitive unless there were a major change in the revenue distribution. That has not happened."

Part of FSU’s concern is falling behind financially to competing programs like the University of Florida which is in the SEC and has a media contract worth much more than what FSU currently makes.

The school remains under a media rights contract with the ACC until 2035. By next August, the university could revisit that agreement.
