Leon County candidates and elected officials took turns dishing up BBQ, desserts…and their campaign pitches at the Lake Ella American Legion Hall Saturday. The event was part of a fundraiser for the Democratic Club of North Florida.

Retired Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho was a hit, speaking about the formation of the U.S. government. He discussed John Locke and the social contract, pointing to a government that existed by the consent of the governed.

“Most of the people who wrote the Constitution could speak 5 languages, "Sancho said. "They could speak Latin, French, Greek, their own language. They were far better classically educated than we were. They studied information to make decisions. That’s how they formed this government.”

Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried also spoke during the weekend fundraiser. She highlighted party plans for the next election.
