LCS brings multimillion-dollar turf project to Godby High School

A $2 million project to update the track and playing fields at Godby Highschool is about halfway done.

Amos P. Godby High School is the latest school to transition from natural grass to turf. Since 2018, Leon County Schools has spent upwards of $9 million to remodel playing fields across the county.

Officials say the upfront cost will cut down on maintenance costs associated with natural fields in the long-term. New synthetic fields have already been installed at Lincoln, Rickards, and Chiles High Schools.

With Godby’s turf project nearly complete, the school is set to get its track redone next summer. The district estimates the total cost for Godby’s turf and track is $2 million dollars.
