The newly-elected chairman of the Leon DEC is a former reporter and Democratic operative.

The Leon County Democratic Executive Committee elected its new chairman last night. It’s Ryan Ray, the aide to Tallahassee City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow.

Most people would call the DEC chairmanship a challenging job.

But Ray urged his fellow Democrats to be “focused, organized and able to compete again.”

He’s a former reporter who has worked on a number of Democratic campaigns, including managing Matlow’s first run for the city commission in 2018.

Ray won the DEC chairmanship with 70 percent of the committee’s vote.

Monica O’Neal, a longtime officer of the DEC, was elected vice chair.
