Square Mug Cafe is hoping for salvation this Saturday

The shop's business is typically brisk during weekday lunch hours.

It's been almost 3 years since Donna Elliot bought what had been the Black Dog Coffee Shop in Railroad Square and renamed it the "Square Mug Cafe." But it seems the question of whether the popular little bistro makes it to its 4th birthday remains open.
Elliot said the recent letter from Railroad Square's managers at first seemed like an eviction notice, but she now calls it a "misunderstanding." Still, she said the little coffee shop isn't free and clear yet.

"We do, however, have to come up with the rest of September's rent and October's rent by next Friday."

She's hoping an event this Saturday will help.

"It's our 3rd year anniversary and we're going to have live music all day long and the drinks will be pouring and it's a dual fundraiser to save the coffee shop and then to raise money for the food pantries that I help run."

The entertainment gears up at 4:00 p.m. with the bands including Hot Tamale, Pineapple Tuesday and Trial by Stone.
