The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) is making a change to language involving a use-of-force policy.

The Citizens Police Review Board recommended the move following a DUI arrest last year that was caught on video by a passerby. The suspect was on the ground and repeatedly hit with a baton as officers tried to arrest him. The police department said the officers were following department policy because the suspect was resisting arrest.

TPD has accepted a change in the policy that says officers may not use such a weapon to thrust or jab at certain areas of the body, except when there is aggressive resistance by the suspect.
