People wait in line at the Northeast Branch Library to cast their ballot in the 2020 Presidential Election.

Nearly 9,000 people have voted at early voting sites in Leon County. It took voters at the Northeast Branch Library Tuesday about 45 minutes to cast their ballot. For some people, it was the first time they’ve stood in a line to vote.

At the polling site off Thomasville road the line to vote extended close to the sidewalk. By 2:30 in the afternoon more than 1300 people had cast ballots at the location. Dana Brooks, an attorney with Fasig and Brooks law firm, was one of them.

“We’re at the Northeast Library and there’s a decent line here. It moved quickly I had no problem with the speed in which it moved. But I understand at the courthouse downtown you can pretty much get in and out," said Brooks. "Whatever your ability is if you can wait around sure. But there are other places that move quickly.”

Jimmy Fasig said he chose to vote in person instead of by mail to make sure his ballot was counted. While he didn’t believe voting by mail would be an issue, he said the assurance of seeing his ballot accepted was worth the wait.
