The Florida Police Chiefs Association released a report detailing best practices when officers use force.

The Florida Police Chiefs Association recently released new guidelines in the wake of George Floyd's death. Its recommendations include banning chokeholds with exceptions and de-escalation before using force. Last month, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell told the Tallahassee City Commission that his agency is already following those best practices.

"Very excited about that. I mean, it talks about chokeholds, an officer's duty to intervene, policies outward-facing. All the things that again, we've been talking about, and we've already done," Revell says.

The association also recommends agencies should actively recruit officers who reflect the demographics of their communities. Revell says his executive staff is 50% women and minorities, while his command staff is 38%.
