The Walton County Jail has 58 inmates who have tested positive for COVID-19. Only one inmate has needed to go to the hospital. The infections are isolated to a portion of one housing unit. 89 inmates have been tested so far, and 10 results are still pending.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office Jail Director Cory Godwin says most of the infected inmates are asymptomatic:

“Not to say we’re out of the woods. We expect more positives. We will retest every one of the inmates that have presented a positive probably within about a two-week period just to verify that and continue to monitor all of our inmate temps [in] the meantime.”

Masks are available to inmates. Families can call an information line (850)-951-7001 to ask general questions.
