Florida A&M University has announced its plan to terminate its men’s tennis and men's cross country programs in June 2020. The university says that is to help fix an estimated $2.4 million deficit in their department of athletics.
This past summer, FAMU leaders including the board of trustees began developing a sustainable budgeting plan to ensure a future for the university’s athletic department.
“We are continuing to move forward with our plans for FAMU Athletics and appreciate all of the support of our fans, friends, and partners,” FAMU President Larry Robinson said in a statement.
The affected 12 student athletes will stay on scholarship as long as they continue to meet academic standards.
