Some of the Capital City’s best-known personalities were helping deliver Meals on Wheels on Monday, Feb. 25. The yearly “Big Wheels” event is hosted by Elder Care Services of the Big Bend.
Those personalities included Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey.
“This is such a very important service that we provide in this community and I’m glad to join my City and County colleagues and let’s go and have some fun today!” he exclaimed.
Among those colleagues was Leon County Commission Chair Jimbo Jackson. He pointed out how critical nutrition is to the overall health of older residents.
“Things like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, all of those things are controlled by regular nutritious meals. In addition to the medications that our elderly are required to take on a regular basis require meals, hot meals.”
And then Elder Care’s Food Services Director Michael Henderson gave all the celebrities their delivery marching orders.
“Every client will get a hot meal and a cold snack supper today," he began before assigning the participants a partner and routing instructions.
After which, the volunteers loaded up their vehicles with food and drove off to their various client destinations.
