Sustainable Tallahassee Hosts Electrifying Expo

Tom Flanigan

Tallahassee's first-ever electric vehicle expo happened on Saturday, Sept. 15. Organizers were happy with the large turnout.

One of those organizers was Jim Davis, executive director of Sustainable Tallahassee.

"We knew the number of cars that were coming and we were just hoping the people would come, and they have!" he said as visitors poured into the exhibit area in the parking lot of St. Paul's United Methodist Church near Lake Ella. "It's been awesome and there have been a lot of good questions and a great variety of vehicles."

That variety included a brand-new Tesla Model Three. It goes 310 miles on each full battery charge, can do 0 to 60 mph in 5 seconds, and its owner, FSU Proposal Development Coordinator Mike Mitchell, absolutely loves it.

"This is the future that we were promised as kids. It's this car!" he said excitedly.

Meanwhile, the City of Tallahassee and Leon County are installing more charging stations to help move the electric vehicle future into high gear.
