With County Commissioner John Dailey now in the race to be Tallahassee’s next mayor, two City Commission candidates have dropped their bids and look to fill Dailey’s vacant seat.
Only a day after Dailey announced his mayoral candidacy, Emily Fritz jumped into the County Commission District 3 race. She says she wouldn’t have run against Dailey as an incumbent, but likes her chances in the open race.
“Had I been elected to a City seat, I would have been very happy and pleased and proud to serve. The reason why I moved to the county commission seat is because it’s a district seat,” Fritz said. “I was not going to run against Jon Dailey, but now that John has left the seat, it was an opportunity.”
Some may remember Fritz from her 2012 run for County Commission Seat One. That was her only previous full campaign before filing for the city commission race earlier this year. Fritz says she is far from what she calls a “perennial candidate.” She adds the opportunity to hold a district seat would get her closer to those she intends to serve.
Late in the day Tuesday another City Commission candidate, Rick Minor, announced he was entering the County Commission District 3 race to run against Fritz. Minor says he plans to file Wednesday morning. He had also previously filed to run in the City race.
