In the wake of the deadly shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglass High School in Broward County, Leon school officials are trying to reassure worried parents.

Leon School Superintendent Rocky Hanna says he’s pushing greater situational awareness, more training and more active shooter drills.

"We need to go back to take time at the beginning of each year to have these serious conversations and remind our kids, ‘if you see something, say something’," said Hanna, "We’re all in this together and we have to work together as a community to protect each other from harm.”

Florida lawmakers are calling for increased funding for school safety. Seventeen people, many students, were killed in what is now the 18th school shooting of the year in the United States.
