Wakulla County Deputies Receive Medals Of Heroism

The Florida Channel

Florida Governor Rick Scott honored two sheriff’s deputies Thursday with a Medal of Heroism.

Deputies Matt Hedges and Brandon Sheffield were responding to a house fire last February when they heard a man’s cries for help. The deputies protected him from the fire until it was safe for him to be moved. Though the victim suffered severe burns, he survived. Governor Rick Scott honored the deputies at a Florida Cabinet meeting Thursday.

“Due to the actions of Deputies Hedges and Sheffield, they were able to save a man’s life," Scott said. "On behalf of the State of Florida, I would like to present both of you with the Governor’s Medal of Heroism.”

The Wakulla County deputies received their medals in front of their family members and colleagues.
