Leon County is offering a tree planting event to celebrate Arbor Day next Saturday.
Dean Richards, of Leon County Public Works, says a lot of planning has gone into making the day both fun and educational. Volunteers will be on hand to demonstrate proper planting techniques, as well as offer information about the native trees that will be planted.
“We talked about making it not only about planting trees, but also an experience," Richards remarked.
He expects a good turnout, from groups such as the Rotary Club, Girl Scouts, and Florida A&M University. An announcement for the event says anyone who wants to join should bring their gloves, shovels, rakes, and friends to Apalachee Regional Park next Saturday, January 20, at 9 a.m.
