Leon County Schools, Nopetro Mark Five Year Partnership

Compressed Natural Gas is making an impact on Leon County Schools, fueling district buses with compressed natural gas from Nopetro stations.

According to AAA, compressed natural gas is cheaper and better for the community than diesel. And more than 100 Leon County school buses run on natural gas. District spokesman Chris Petley says the conversion from diesel to CNG fuel has saved the district more than a million dollars over five years. School board Chair Joy Bowen says those savings revert to the classroom.

“We are saving sufficient amounts of money to be recycled back into our school system to help our kids and teachers,” she said.

The district's Nopetro Station is open to garbage trucks, city transit vehicles, and cars that run on natural gas.
