Drivers Urged To Be Careful Due To Prescribed Burn In Apalachicola National Forest

MGN Online

Drivers should be careful as they drive through the Leon County area Monday and Tuesday. A prescribed burn of the Apalachicola National Forest could leave the area a bit smoky.

The goal of prescribed burning is to improve wildlife habitats and reduce the chances of wildfires.

But, U.S. Forest Service officials say the prescribed fires could mix with already foggy areas—particularly in the morning—and can decrease a driver’s visibility. So, they urge motorists to drive slowly with their lights on.

The prescribed burn occurred in Leon County, west of Woodville Highway, in the area south of the Publix Super Market at Forest Village Shopping Center.
