City Votes No On Property Tax Increase

Tallahassee residents won’t see an increase in their property tax rate next year. City Commissioners voted during a budget workshop Wednesday to keep the current rate in place. Commissioner Curtis Richardson says that’s the plan commissioners had in mind when they reduced the rate during the last budgeting cycle.

“That is was a five-year window. That we wanted some predictability for the citizens in the community so they could plan their budgets over the next several years and not have to consider paying additional property taxes, at least for the city,” Richardson says.

A final decision on the rate isn’t required until August first, but commissioners said they wanted to get a vote out of the way early so city staffers could keep the constraint in mind while putting together the rest of the city’s budget.
