Tallahassee Celebrates Springtime

Tom Flanigan

The 49th Annual Springtime Tallahassee Festival attracted more than 100,000 people to the Capital City's downtown over the weekend.

The event featured the traditional parade and lots of other entertainment. The 2 1/2 hour-long parade along Monroe Street had about 150 units this year. Nearby there were dozens of booths in and along Park Avenue. Board Chair Latreze Gooding was at the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Bend Booth.

She explained her purpose was, "Just to highlight our clubs and showcase to folks that we are here and are here to service kids in the community with after-school care and summer care."

Leon Supervisor of Elections Mark Earley was registering voters and answering election questions.

"It's great seeing the shiny eyes of the kids and the interest of the adults and it's wonderful being a part of Springtime Tallahassee!" he said.

Multiple entertainment stages then kept the music flowing into the nighttime hours.
