The Capital City's non-profit public service groups are once again competing for the monthly $1,000 grants awarded by Awesome Tallahassee.
Domi Station was the site for 2017's inaugural competition Wednesday (1/18) evening. The first competitors of the new year were Making Light, where Mandy Broadfoot is the creative director.
"We provide high quality, inclusive performing arts education, music, art, dance and theatre, to kids of all abilities, so kids with special needs work and learn right alongside typically-developing kids," Broadfoot said.
Meanwhile, Oasis Center for Women and Girls Executive Director Haley Cutler was pitching her organization's new resource.
"We're hoping to get a mini grant to help with our new lending library," she said. "Our new collection will specifically highlight and celebrate the strength, courage and contribution of women and girls."
After the pitches, Awesome Tallahassee board members awarded the thousand dollars to Making Light's autism therapy dance floor. In February, other local service organizations will be vying for that month's big prize.
