Tallahassee’s airport will soon be offering new intra-state flights. City officials say Elite Airways will begin offering flights to Vero Beach and Sarasota. Airport Director Chris Curry says the flights won’t be daily, but will be seasonal with the aim of targeting lawmakers and lobbyists traveling to Tallahassee. City Commissioner Scott Maddox says the flights fill a gap in the airports coverage.
“We’re very excited about having a new partner in Elite airways. It flies newer aircraft, jet aircraft and they’re very reliable and will provide regular flights 2-3 a week and I think will increase overtime to those hard to reach places," Maddox says.
Maddox says the city is continuing its efforts to convince JetBlue to operate a flight from Tallahassee to Fort Lauderdale. Officials are also looking for opportunities for direct flights from Tallahassee to major out of state cities.
