The economy, the environment, quality of life and governance—those are the areas County Commissioners have agreed to focus on in the coming years.
Commissioner John Dailey is the newly elected chairman.
“We just wrapped up our previous five year strategic plan and we laid the foundation for the next five years. So if you think about it, you know, creating the foundation and how we’re moving forward for the next five years and the goals we ‘re going to accomplish, that’s a really big deal,” Dailey says.
During their Monday retreat commissioners discussed targets and stretch goals for the next five years. Some of those include eliminating 500 septic tanks in the primary springs protection zone, and implementing 500 ideas brought forward by citizens.
Newly elected Commissioner Jimbo Jackson says he wants to ensure the counties goals will improve public safety.
“I was able to voice that regarding safety in our community, not only district two, but many of our rural communities that are needing increased signage, increased lighting, sidewalks and other road improvements that will help us to have a greater quality of life and just live as safer citizens in Leon County,” Jackson says.
One of the targets commissioners discussed is to construct 30 miles of sidewalks and trails in the county. Commissioners are expected to take a final vote on those goals coming up in January.
