Leon County Commissioners celebrated the work of outgoing commissioner Jane Sauls Tuesday.
After more than 30 years working for local government and another 20 serving on the county commission, Jane Sauls is retiring. Commission Nick Maddox says he’s long looked to Sauls as an example.
“You have been an example to me ever since I walked into the commission chambers. I’ve watched you. I’ve listened to you. And in most cases tried to do my best to imitate you. I don’t know how well I’m doing, but I have tried,” Maddox said.
Sauls announced last spring she would not seek a sixth term with the county commission. Jimbo Jackson and Many Joanos are vying to replace Sauls. The seat is up for a vote in the current election.
Leon County will hold another ceremony honoring Sauls Wednesday morning. The Ft. Braden Branch Library on Blountstown Highway will be renamed the Jane G. Sault Ft. Braden Branch Library.
