A colorful mural-map was dedicated in Frenchtown on Saturday (9/10). It's the latest in a series of neighborhood murals made possible by the Knight Creative Communities Institute.
The mural is the creation of recent Florida A&M grad Kadija Christie.
"It's my first mural ever," she told visitors to the dedication event. "It's the largest canvas I've ever worked on. I was super-excited to be a part of this experience!"
The painting is a light-hearted map of the community's major points of interest. It adorns the northern wall of the Frenchtown Farmers' Market building. Michelle Gomez oversees the market as well as directing the Frenchtown Heritage Hub.
"We are the map!" she laughed after the informal ceremony. "How cool is that?"
The Knight Creative Communities Institute has been commissioning a series of murals all over Tallahassee as a visual signature of the city's various neighborhoods.
