Tallahassee already gives organizations holding public events and festivals a break on certain services. But now the city is offering a way for people planning a community event to get more support. Ashley Edwards is the director of the city’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department. She says applicants can request in-kind city services.
“Like police support for security, parking, road closures, things like that—trash services, garbage cans, some of our park staff that provide special event services that includes audio,” Edwards says.
Edwards says this is the first year the city is using an application system for special event support services. She says the program could apply to events like Spring Time Tallahassee, or the New Year’s Eve Fireworks show.
