Woman Gets Life In 2014 Death Of Grandson

Leon County Sheriff's Office

A Tallahassee woman has received life in prison in the 2014 stabbing death of her grandson. Martha White struck a plea deal with prosecutors.

White was arrested in August 2014. A judge initially ruled her mentally unfit to stand trial that September, she spent four months in treatment at the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee. In January of 2015, the judge ruled her trial could proceed.

Friday she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole as part of an agreement with prosecutors. White pled “no contest” to stabbing her grandson, Mason Rhinehart while her other grandson was nearby. She had been babysitting the children.

Mental health experts initially described her behavior “delusional and psychotic.”
