Update: The Leon County Sheriffs office says the stray bullet that shattered the window of a school bus parked at Killearn  Lakes Elementary School came from a mile away.Detectives were called to the school and began investigating. According to the Leon County Sheriffs Office, law enforcement canvassed the surrounding neighborhood, conducted interviews and determined the bullet came from someone hunting or target shooting. Officers eventually found two people target shooting in a wooded area about a mile away from the school.  The bullets being shot matched the one that broke the school bus window. LCSO says no arrests have been made at this time.

Original Post: The Leon County Sheriffs Office is investigating after a stray bullet shattered a school bus window Tuesday afternoon.  No students or other personnel were injured.

Students at Killearn Lakes Elementary School were boarding school buses for the ride home Tuesday afternoon when Superintendent Jackie Pons says a stray bullet shattered the window of one of the buses parked outside the school.

“I was told there were eight students on the bus and they were evacuated off the bus by a bus driver who did an outstanding job," said Pons. "He heard the window pop and wasn’t sure at the time what happened, but he heard the window pop and got the students safely off the bus.”

The incident happened around 2:50 p.m. Parents were notified through the districts’ list serve and auto call system. The district also tweeted out the incident.

Another bus transported the kids home. Pons says it doesn’t appear the bus was targeted, and it is now a crime scene.
