As Leon County students head back to school on Monday, Aug. 11, a few schools in the district are still active construction sites as classes resume.
Those schools include Godby High School, Griffin and Nims middle schools. Nims Principal Deshone Hedrington said most of the students there are well adjusted to having construction machines and workers on campus.
"Our theme this year is, 'The Push is On.' We've pushed through the construction and the construction company worked well with us where, when we were testing, they stopped and when we were finished they resumed. So this year we're continuing in the flexibility we started last year."
For now, she said the school's media center will continue to double as a dining hall. A new cafeteria, gym and performance space at Nims should be finished before the end of the year.
