Homeowners in one Crawfordville community found sixty plus Ku Klux Klan recruitment fliers in their neighborhood Sunday.
It’s not the first such fliers have been distributed in the area. Last year similar recruitment pamphlets were distributed in Tallahassee, though it’s not yet clear if the events are related. But Heidi Beirich from the Southern Poverty Law Center says the fliers won’t necessarily lead to greater violence.
“We’ve had situations where very small groups have distributed thousands and thousands of fliers. It didn’t indicate that the group was growing or there was possibly violence going to happen so I would not be concerned about that,” she said.
Wakulla County Sheriff Charlie Creel says distributing these kinds of fliers isn’t illegal. Investigators have yet to determine if the incident is connected to racial graffiti sprayed on black churches last winter.
