Florida A&M University will honor its living, former presidents Thursday. The event is sold out, with more than 400 tickets sold. It’s a partnership between the Bethel Baptist Church Foundation and the FAMU Foundation. Pastor R.B. Holmes of Bethel Baptist Church, calls the event a joyful moment.
“Hopefully, this will begin the healing, and will definitely unite the FAMU family, and strengthen our brand," Holmes said.
FAMU President Elmira Mangum and her board chairman, Rufus Montgomery were supposed to attend the press conference, but could not due to a meeting between FAMU, Florida State University and State University Systen Chancellor Marshall Criser about the joint FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.
Mangum and Montgomery have been at-odds lately, but they're both expected to attend Thursday evening's event.
Revenue will go toward scholarships and FAMU’s athletics program.
