City's Plans For Major Overhaul Of Tallahassee Regional Airport Given The All-Clear

The city of Tallahassee is planning to overhaul the décor and the technology at its local airport.

The renovations are part of the city’s attempt to make Tallahassee Regional Airport more attractive to customers. Aviation Director Chris Curry says a major criticism of the airport is that it “lacked an identity,” and it didn’t resemble a modern airport.

“So, once that was identified, then it was important to focus on obtaining grant funding in order to facilitate the project,” Curry says.

Curry says the plans are expected to cost anywhere between $10 to $12 million, and will include replacing old flooring, and incorporating imagery and colors from Tallahassee’s college and universities. In addition, the plans include revamping the existing bars and cafes, moving TSA screening equipment, and updating baggage conveyors and ticket facilities to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
